Germany Unveils Advanced Shipborne Laser System to Combat Drones by 2029

Germanys military, with collaboration from "Rheinmetall" and "MBDA", is set to deploy a groundbreaking shipborne "laser" system by 2029 to tackle growing drone threats.

• On October 28, the German Navy received a demonstrator for a high-energy "laser" weapon, developed by "Rheinmetall" and "MBDA", after a year-long trial aboard the frigate Sachsen.
• The new shipborne "laser" system is designed to effectively counter threats posed by "unmanned aerial vehicles" (UAVs), enhancing Germanys naval defense capabilities.
• The system has been relocated to the Laser Competence Centre in "Meppen", where further development will continue in the arms industry to prepare for operational deployment by 2029.
